Kerner also stated the project was proposed by school officials last year when Obama was in Chicago on her book tour promoting her memoir and she was excited about the being honored in such a way.
Although , she didn't play sports she was on the modern dance team at her school. During her time in the white house she always stressed the importance of health and fitness through her campaign "Let's Move" to help combat childhood obesity.
The Obama's have been honored by a couple of schools and facilities across the country , however this would be the first public facility to honor them in their hometown.
