2017 definitely has been a joke when it comes to politics, it has also been a hectic, confusing , quick year for most of us ladies. Whether it was stress from work, failing love life, issues with friends or even finding yourself and what direction you want to go in life. Some of us may not have gotten the best that 2017 had to offer, but these ladies certainly did.
Issa Rae: She's the writer and co-creator of the hit show Insecure which was renewed for a third season in August , In late October it was announced that Ms. Rae signed on with HBO to create two more shows one will be a half hour show based on the love life of a bisexual man dating during this day in age it's called Him Or Her. The other is called Sweet Life this show will be an hour long based in LA it's expected to be a modern day black version of 90210.
Lena Waithe: She's a screenwriter, producer and actress on the Netflix series Master of None an episode she wrote for the show based on her own coming out story , helped her become the first black woman to receive an Emmy award for writing in a comedy series which is major. She was also named artist of the year by Out100. She also has a new series coming out in January titled The Chi.
Cardi B: Sis is like the ultimate Bronx's girl's fairytale , she went from stripping to the number one spot on billboards and became a household name. She's covered magazines, walked in shows during fashion week, sold out shows , got nominated for two Grammy's for best rap performance and best rap song, she even partnered a deal with Steve madden. The icing on top was definitely offset's proposal and the ring he gifted her with, 2017 was definitely her year.
SZA: She's a singer and song writer for many our faves such as Rihanna, Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj. After two years of work SZA released her debut album CTRL in June it was number 3 on the U.S. billboard top 200. CTRL went on to become certified gold in October she gained new stardom, fans, and four Grammy nominations yass go Solana.
Rihanna: Although she didn't release much music this year she was successful in many other aspects this year. She launched her beauty line Fenty Beauty which cleared shelves everywhere and was named one of the best inventions of 2017 by time. She received humanitarian of the year from Harvard, a street in her hometown Barbados was named after her. Let's not forget all that happy weight sis put on this year.
Teyana Taylor: She's a singer, songwriter, and choreographer she's been in the industry for a while now, however after appearing in Kanye's Fade video Teyana gained newfound stardom and new acting opportunities. Earlier this year Reebok named her their new brand ambassador, she launched her fade 2 fitness workout program and clothing line inspired by the video. She had two recurring roles on Lee Daniel's Star and on The Breaks. Teyana and husband Iman Shumpert have a reality show that is set to premiere in early 2018.
Meghan Markle:
In 2017 Suits actress Meghan Markle became engaged to Prince Harry of the British royal family , making her a household name and also the first mixed race royal. She was also named Woman of the year by the British magazine Hello Magazine.
Yara Shahidi:
In 2017 The Black-ish actress graduated from high school and began attending Harvard in the fall. Also she received her own spin off show based on her character from Black-ish, the show is titled Grown-ish it follows her character as she begins her first semester at college , the show will premiere in January 2018 on freeform.
Remy Ma; In 2017 Remy opened up her own clothing store in North Carolina called conceited, was a headliner for summer jam where she brought out classic female rappers and even showed love to the rookies, won best female hip hop artist at the BET awards. She also signed a multi-million dollar deal with Columbia records and got her figure right to be able to go through IVF treatment.
